Wow, Dr. Milham has solved the puzzle of why the incidence of several "diseases of civilization" increased steadily during the 20th century in the U.S. The book is part autobiography and part introduction to the relationship between electricity and disease. I appreciated him presenting how his work and understanding evolved over the course of his career.In a more sensible world, Samuel Milham would be a household name and he would get a Nobel prize for his work. Policymakers would give top priority to ensuring that our methods for generating and using electricity were as safe as they practically could be. In our current world, government and industry leaders ignore the risks related to EMF's as much as possible and plow ahead with increasing our exposure. They show no concern for its impact to human health and how poor health is bankrupting our country. In this and many other ways, the U.S. hurtles toward self-destruction.Some reviewers have noted that there is little emphasis in this short book on practical ways to address the risks discussed. While true, that is by design. The first step is for people to understand the problems. There are other books which deal with protecting yourself and your family.
The author makes a powerful case for the modern day electrification of our homes and public places being a contributing factor in many of our modern diseases. He cites historical statistics backing up his claim. Milham is both a physician and an epidemiologist, so he has some qualifications in this area.The centerpiece of the book is the case of La Quinta Middle School in California in 2004, where a surprising number of teachers were coming down with cancer. There were a total of 18 cancers in 16 teachers, to be exact. This was abnormally high--more than triple the expected rate for California. Melanoma levels alone were 11 times greater than average, with four melanoma cases among the small group of teachers. After reading about the problem, Milham volunteered to assist in tracking down the cause at the school, but he was rebuffed by the deputy superintendent. Later, however, he was invited in by a teacher during a period when the school was closed and, using a simple microsurge meter, he discovered dirty electricity levels that were off the charts.Dirty electricity is a term for microsurges and noise riding on the standard electrical waveform. It can be caused by electrical appliances and devices, fluorescent bulbs, and many other issues. Upon submitting his findings to the superintendent, he received a threatening letter from the school attorney. Milham then went over their heads and involved a public health agency, who ultimately verified his findings.After reading this, I got my own microsurge meter, removed compact fluorescent bulbs from my home, and added a dozen dirty electricity filters. I read about Dr. Milham's book on Dr. Mercola's website. I innocently bought into the earthing craze & purchased an earthing band. After about two months I had issues with frequent urination at night. I read Dr. Milham's book & promptly stopped the earthing band. No more frequent nighttime urination.I'm grateful for this information. It's made me aware of the issues of dirty electricity. I've now taken steps to mitigate EMF's & dirty electricity in my home. I've not slept well for 10 years & was searching for answers (hence the earthing band). Since I've started turning off the wifi at night & eliminating all electronics in my room, I've been sleeping. I'm grateful for this information.
When I finally bought this book, I was expecting a book full of useful electrical information that I can use to reduce bad electricity and electro-mag-wave stuff from my environment. There were only a couple of useful paragraphs about the hands-on how to stuff, but even then it was only introductory, basic, broad facts. I am very disappointed, this is basically an autobiography about his free medical education and how he moved on through life. A glorified auto-biography. No nitty-gritty technical information that I was expecting. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Look elsewhere if you want a how-to manual on dealing with dirty electricity and electro magnetic waves and such.

(She mentions Dr Milham throughout ZAPPED)Dr Milham is an epidemiologist and mentions early on in the book how he wasn't as interested in finding cures to diseases as he was in finding their causes. At first I wasn't getting him. Then a light bulb went off (really bad choice of words, I know...) when I realized that if disease is preventable then you don't really need a cure at all. If skateboarding on the interstate was the cause of several kids suffering from broken bones then would you try and develop a miracle 'cure' for the busted bones or would you simply sit them down and say "STAY OFF OF THE HIGHWAY YOU MORON"? You get the idea.Read this book and ZAPPED and save yourself and your family.In just 2 weeks my massive, four alarm, Robin-Williams-grade ADHD symptoms have started to subside w/o medication. If dirty electricity isn't real then I suppose ADHD isn't real either. Trust me, ADHD is real, just ask any one of my friends.Again, read this book and ZAPPED and save yourself and your family.
