The best definitions of the greek words followed with strongs numbers right next to them. I really like this! I use this with my key word bible and its amazing. I definitely recommend this book! The pages are durable and the print is perfect. When you open it up it gives your the publishers preface to the new edition and follows with the preface from J.H. Thayer. And than a list of anient authors in the lexicon with the list of books. Follows with explanations and abbreviations. And than the whole things is in alphabetical order in greek with the strongs number next to them with the definition and bible verse. Its truly awesome.
Has some value for translation work, but you have to sift through a lot of Catholic material that is not based on the Christian Majority Greek Text of the New Testament.
This book along with others help to take The Scriptures back to the language and meaning that they were originally written in.
Great, classic book on NT Greek words and their usage. He gives a good deal of derivation information, which is very valuable. Note to fellow Greek students: even though your book may include all the vocabulary you need, you should still get this book right away. One of the hardest thing about learning languages (at least for me) is memorizing vocabulary, and having the derivations makes it much easier. Example: the word PROSWPON (face). Mounce gives the memorable phrase "Pour soap on" as a mnemonic; but even more helpful to me was Thayer's explanation that PROSWPON is derived from PROS+OPS="what's in front of your eyes." Another one: ENOPION (before). Thayer explains it comes from EN+OPS="in the eyes of". Beautiful.Another thing I especially like is how he relates many Greek words to words in other languages, not just English. For example, "IDE" could be defined as look, behold, etc; but Thayer would give the helpful hint "Latin: ecce". Where useful, he also lists equivalents for some words in German, French, etc.The only drawback is that it's an reprint of an old (1880?) text, so some of the print is a little hard to read, and some of the references are hard to figure out and then to find. But, especially for the money, it's a great tool.
Alphabetical list of Words found in the Greek New Testament. Lots and lots of lexical, grammatical, usage, etymological information. Useful because words are easy to find. Confusing for the beginner. Many parts of verbs and shortened words are not listed separately.
I have one of these and have used it for awhile. It is an excellent secondary resource for study and word development. I have enjoyed it so much that I bought this one for my parents. Clearly, I would recommend it to others.
